How do I start my market?

Starting a Market can be daunting, here are a couple of easy steps to follow:

  1. Find a cause, reason or need to start one
  2. Research the area
  3. Confirm a date
  4. Location is key, secure it as soon as possible
  5. Head over to local authorities to obtain the necessary licenses
  6. Start sourcing vendors, activities and build up your itinerary for the day
  7. Sponsors are good for prizes; or promotions to attract traffic
  8. Make sure to have music, a seating area, a variety of food and stalls with kiddies’ entertainment
  9. Build your advert and start sharing, reach out to everyone and share it everywhere
  10. Count down the days
  11. 1 week before the event, compile a file with all your certificates, licenses, vendor information, emergency contacts etc.
  12. 5 days before the event, share a vendor map and location with all Vendors so that they are informed of placements.

Sounds easy? The entire process could take between 1 week to 3 months to get ready and certified.
